We are happy to announce the new Louisiana Wildlife Rehabilitators Association website. The old site was getting a bit stale and was a little difficult to organize in an easy way. Here's where we are as an organization:

  1. LAWRA is working as a partner agency with the PPC Liason contractor for the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill which happens to be the Louisiana State Animal Response Team. What that means is we are vetting and sending our member and non-member Wildlife Rehabilitators headquartered in the State of Louisiana to the Fort Jackson Wildlife Rehabilitation Center currently located in Fort Jackson, Louisiana.

If you are a currently permitted Wildlife Rehabilitator or sub-permittee and would like to work at the Fort Jackson facility please contact Nancy Torcson, Director of Oiled Wildlife Response for the Louisiana Wildlife Rehabilitators Association. Mrs. Torcson will give you additional details on how to get involved. Nancy Torcson can be contacted at 888-308-3922 extension 757 or via e-mail at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
  2. LAWRA is working hard to support Wildlife Rehabilitation Recruiting in Louisiana. We just hosted an Introduction to Wildlife Rehabilitation with a FANTASTIC response of over 200+ individuals in the New Orleans, Louisiana area. Due to the enormous UNPRECEDENTED response to the class we will be holding another Introduction to Wildlife Rehabilitation class in the New Orleans area in the next month for those that missed or were turned away from the first one. The next step after that class is to hold a Wildlife Rehabiltiation Basic Skills class for those still interested in proceeding further after the Introductory class. Those details will be posted soon and those attending the Introduction to Wildlife Rehabiltiation class will get first placement at the Basic Skills class. Details on the Introduction to Wildlife Rehabilitation class will be posted here when they are finalized as will the details of the Basic Skills class.
  3. LAWRA has an immediate need for a Secretary and Newsletter Editor. Please contact Debbie Harris at 888-308-3922 ext. 755 if you are interested and she will explain the requirements to you.
